Your Role and Responsibilities
Exciting new opportunity within the re-shaped IBM Tax organization. This position is part of a newly formulated advisory team with opportunities to work with CFOs regional tax and CHQ Tax and gives you a great overview of multiple IDT legislation within the EMEA and APJ region.
Objective of the job:
Ensure and overview a compliant end to end indirect tax process. Drive indirect tax technical and technological improvements, while following and implementing indirect tax legal changes.
Being responsible for indirect tax end to end processes in particular countries
Proactively communicate with brand tax and regional tax teams (RTM)
Monitor changes in IDT legislation, advise on impact to IBM business and update Tax Information Portal accordingly
Provide advice and insight in respect of changes in legislation and case law updates identify potential implications on IBM ‘s policies and practices. Initiate the required process changes and discuss the expected modifications on Tax Information Portal with RTM.
Review and advise on new contracts and agreements and provide advice regarding any type of necessary adjustments on new contracts and agreements in collaboration with regional tax team
Take responsibility and provide Tax Advisory Service Support
In cooperation with RTM provide answers within the agreed SLA for the IDT questions being submitted in the advisory tool.
Provide correct tax treatment on sensitive purchases through the respective ticketing tools
Support the different business units and the CFOs through providing tax advice regarding IDT treatment of the business/operation decisions with the involvement of RTMs
Provision of country specific technical IDT advice on a range of business/operation decisions and structures.
Support Q2C team in respect of the questions regarding the invoicing systems and billing requirements
Provide IDT guidance related to supply chain logistics and provide support to IBM’s Global Logistic operation
Provide technical support for global IDT projects including system improvement, updates, and other ad-hoc IDT projects
Compliance – Reporting and Controls
Oversight IDT returns and liaise with the Vision Team
Review the IDT returns and ancillary obligations for all in-scope entities provided by 3rd party compliance team
Ensure adherence to IBM IDT Controls programme to ensure internal control and SOX compliance
Deal with IDT Accounting issues and regular management reporting as required
Maintain and update internal IBM IDT tools and guidance as required
Work together with BIG4 companies in terms of provide support in the preparation of binding and non-binding ruling request
Manage VAT controversy and audits
Manage both external and internal audit requirements for IDT
Prepare appeal, official comments if required. Work together with the external auditors
Work out action plan based on audits findings in order to minimize or to eliminate future tax exposure
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
1 to 3 years of experience in an advisory role or VAT reviewer/controller
Good understanding of indirect taxes (knowing legislation for multiple counties is an advantage)
Applied skills in using MS Excel spreadsheets
Good English communication skills, both written and oral
Good problem solving skills and ability to collaborate across different functions
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
